The weekend has just begun here, for some of you it’s nearly Saturday morning but here at this moment it’s Friday evening. An odd time to write a blog post for me as usually I’m getting the kids to bed. Actually I should be doing so tonight as well but I’m letting them enjoy a few extra minutes watching a movie on the sofa with their dad.
Technically I don’t really have a weekend, Saturday and Sunday are barely different from the rest of the week except that most other people have it off from work and deadlines aren’t a thought again until Monday. My husband works during the weekend so my routine with the kids withstands though I try to visit family or take them out to the park or something a little less ordinary. As a mom and as someone working freelance the work overlaps and bleeds into evenings, weekends even holidays to flex around obligatory things like kids’ activities and errands.
Even without a distinct, traditional weekend I’m still trying to be mindful to enjoy the little things. Drink tea, try a new recipe with the kids, take photos for the fun of it and not just for sharing on social media, read a few more chapters of a good book, which is currently The Goldfinch.
I’m curious of the sorts of things you distinguish as weekend activities. Is it a time to get projects done around the house, garden, meet up with friends for dinner and drinks or simply and intentionally do nothing at all?
