mid week already

Do you ever spend an entire day thinking it was really another? I do this too often, thinking it's Tuesday when it's really Wednesday. The week has gotten away from me and I've got to make the last few days count. Here's some mid week inspiration for you with beautiful styling.

DIY: ladder

This is a project that's been a long time in the making. I've thought on and off about making this decorative ladder for a while and decided now is the time to give it a try. It's a great way display magazines or hang towels, jackets or scarves.
I should say that I'm no expert-there might be a better way of doing this but here's what I did and what worked for me.

You'll need:
2 large dowels (about 6' long and 1 1/4" wide)
1 smaller dowel (1" wide) that can be cut into 3 x 14" parts
medium drill bit
1" drill bit for making holes
wood glue
measuring tape
paint & brush
drill

I measured the two long dowels into 4 equal parts, which were for me about 17.75" apart. Mark 3 places to drill the holes, making sure to keep them straight along the dowel. Drill starter holes with your smaller drill bit and then using the wide bit, drill about 1/4-1/2" into the dowels for the smaller pieces to rest in. Do that with both large wooden dowels.
Cut your 1" thick dowel into 3 x 14" pieces and using the wood glue, glue to the holes you've made in the larger dowels.
Once everything is dry you can paint and be done!

I love my boys room, I love the black, white and grey colours which really let all of the colourful toys and prints really pop out. lately

From our home this weekend.
I finally got the Lup candle holder I've been eyeing for almost a year now. It's one of my favorite things at the moment, I love the thin black lines and shapes.

Today one of my favorite brands, Normann Copenhagen came out with some new products with which I am smitten. You probably know by now we have the Tablo table in our living room from two Christmas's ago and the drop hooks in our room. Now they come in different colorways including all black and all white, which I love. But I think it's the bed linens that are on my list now! See the rest here.

open storage

My obsession is storage. I am always looking to improve my storage and organization especially when there are four of us living in a small space. Inside my cupboards, wardrobe and drawers everything all has to be in its place and it's nice to shut the door on it when it becomes a little messier. Recently I have been inspired by open storage and love that sort of lived in feel and how it could be styled. I think it will be awhile before I get there but in the mean time these are interesting to look at.

favorite candle

One of my favorite Christmas gifts is this little tin candle from Le Labo that my husband gave me. I love candles so they are always burning in our house. You might remember this from my gift guides and it's a nice little container to keep even after the wax is gone.

bedroom

Happy Saturday everyone. I'm up late and can't sleep so it seemed like the right time to edit and post these photos of our bedroom I took earlier in the week. We switched the bed and dressers to opposite walls and I like it much better this way, wish we had done it sooner actually.
Also, I keep thinking of getting a different bed. The Malm is nice because I can tuck our blankets into the sides really quickly but having a nice simple mattress with legs and no headboard sounds nice as well...but I can't decide.
Since we moved the bed around I took down the pipe shelf I made and the little wall mounted lights we had above the bed and have been using my light strand for a night light. Unfortunately that leaves the husband without a light for reading on his side (which he hates) so the DHS block lamp is improvising for the time being. I need to figure out some sort of lighting solution for him, so far my only thought is to put a larger table in place of the componibili and set a table lamp on top.
I should also mention the card hanging above the bed is from Julie Joliat, I love this set of cards she makes. The throw pillows are from West Elm, their woven texture is great but still soft. I covered our headboard with some black contact paper, it stays on well but won't damage anything when I peel it off. And lastly, that lovely yawning lady is from Sandra Juto.

Between my husband & I we have a lot of pens, brushes and markers. It seems like we're always losing them too. I found these metal containers before Christmas to plant holiday bulbs in but I liked them so much I bought more for all our pencils & stuff.
Also, I can't remember if I shared these rubber string hangers but I love them. They're from Kontextur and come in different sizes and shapes. I like how simple they are and perfect for holding the magazines and papers I don't want to put away yet.

It's very cold here so we will be bundled up and maybe bake some cookies. Wishing everyone a happy and restful weekend.

Earlier today I started doing a bit of organizing. January is always a month I spend time purging extra things and sorting what to keep vs get rid of. I really crave simplicity and not much color, but a little green is always fresh and reminds me Winter won't last forever.

I hope you're recovering from the Holidays. I'm feeling a bit unmotivated and would rather sleep all day. Glad to have the Holidays over with though and bring on 2013!
