DIY: geo advent calendar

by Deborah

You might remember this when I painted a branch and hung some garland for Sebastian's first birthday as part of his decorations. Well I have decided to keep it up and reuse it for my advent calendar for the boys this year. I am loving geo shapes just now and used this template to create all 24 shapes filling them with chocolate coins and small toys, hanging with some black and white baker twine onto the branch and used rub on numbers.

Some close ups from around my house. You can tell these were taken at different times since some things have moved around in the photos!

dip dye beads

This strand of beads has hung in my workroom for a long time. I was getting bored with them so I decided they needed some help.
Since my husband uses a lot of ink for all of his drawings, I borrowed a jar with a bit of glass and several drops of ink. Go here for a really great how-to on dip dyeing.
The wood is pretty porous and absorbs a lot of the color so it's a easy and fast drying project.

I've always envied these deep window ledges. Someday I'd love to have some like this in our home, so many great things you can collect on them.

DIY: advent calendar

As promised yesterday I'm sharing my advent calendar that I made for Israel. I used some thin sheet metal & a large hole punch to make the tags with a permanent marker for the numbers. Then I tied each bag with some twine and a tag and hung 12 on each side of the antlers rack.

AMM blog & The Craft Pack

A few weeks ago I was asked to be a part of this fun project and spent a weekend in Salt Lake crafting, shooting this video and meeting some really amazing people. Vivint was so kind to make everything possible.
The project I'm talking about is this A Hip Handmade Holiday which is actually this fantastic e-book with holiday crafts and gifts for everyone for $10 or less. I love how simple these all are and had a great time working on some projects.

To purchase the book, go here!

A bit more information about the book:
A Hip Handmade Holiday is a digital craft book (meaning when you buy it you get a 150+ page interactive pdf) with 18 projects, 9 instructional videos and over 100 printable gift tags, stickers, labels, stencils, and patterns.

The Gifts in a Hurry section includes over 100 gift tags, stickers, and printables. There are wine bottle labels, treat box stickers, stationary and lots of other solutions for last-minute holiday giving.

The book is broken into six sections and each section has three crafts. The sections are: Gifts for Gents, Gifts for Ladies, Gifts for Four-Legged Friends, Gifts to Treasure, Gifts for the Home and Gifts In a Hurry.

I hope everyone takes a moment to check it out. These wonderful ladies have worked hard to bring such a fantastic book and resource to you and it's so worth while to read. And for only $10, it also makes a great gift itself.

coming soon

Sorry for the spotty posting. Last week I was working around the clock on orders, getting one particularly large order ready to send to Fab.com which took just about every ounce of time and energy I had.
Then we took a road trip to stay with Jeremiah's aunt for Thanksgiving and got home just in time to start another work week.
We did squeeze in a bit of Christmas time though, putting up our tree and a few decorations last night. I'll be sharing the advent calendar I made for Israel later this week. It's filled with chocolates, cars and animal figures, his current favorites.

I'm excited because I have some festive posts planned for this month that I hope you enjoy, stay tuned!

diamond lights

For those of you who follow me on IG, you might remember this or this when I had made a series of paper geo shapes for the String shelf in our bedroom including a paper diamond. I've had this idea churning in my head and decided to give it a try this past weekend.
I used some vellum paper & this template + instructions to make the diamond shape. Then I sprayed the diamond with silver spray paint, mostly on one side to leave the other still sort of opaque. Finally I cut a cross shaped slit at the top and put them over the lights. When the lights are on the diamonds glow since the paper is slightly sheer.

Let me know if you give this a try!

my corner

The shelves that used to be in this corner are no more. I actually like the open space and stacking all our books on the ground.
For those of you wondering, the poster is by ATWTP.

slow day

The last couple weeks have been so busy. I've been working on projects for the shop, making lots of jewelry and getting very little sleep, trying to keep up with my inbox (failing miserably) and generally feeling like there just aren't enough hours in the day to get everything done.
Today though I'm taking it easy. I'm going to sit and drink some tea, read a good book and take a nap. And then back to it because I still have work this weekend.

Hope everyone has a sweet & restful weekend!

colour me in

by Deborah

Colour me in
After seeing Jennifer's blog post about the super new colouring posters by Roxy Marj. It made me think of my sons recent new found love for colouring in, and with Christmas just around the corner I have been searching for gift ideas that will really encourage his creativity. There are a few great ideas out there that will really open your kids imagination. I am especially loving the colouring in place mats, with a fussy eater in this house I really do think these will help him sit at the table for that bit longer! Well hopefully..Go explore!

worth repeating

Some of you may have seen this on Bloesem but I think it deserves a repost. Home of Jannita van den Haak is dark and beautiful.

the plywood cabinet

You may remember a bit ago I blogged about these pillows from Swedish company How Are You, and I'm excited to share their newest product. Part of their collection Made For Us, the plywood cabinet comes in two sizes and are built on demand to suite your color choices for the inside. I think shades of mint to grey would be nice!

little bedroom + Roxy Marj coloring posters

After mentioning the new bed we got yesterday, I thought I'd share some more of Israel's little room. It's not very big and rarely clean on top of being pretty small so I don't often want to take photos in here but I had to do some organizing after getting his bed together.
The real reason though is to share these coloring poster my friend Roxy (and blog sponsor if you may notice) who is this wonder woman of talents. She's an illustrator and textile designer who recently created these large posters that kids can color on. Smart right?
She has 4 different styles but I love this rug version, designed after an old Kilim, it's filled with fun faces and patterns. Roxy kept the parents in mind with this as well, considering what we would want to have hanging in our house as well.
She hit the nail on the head, in my opinion. Check out the other 3 styles here!

AMM Jewelry shop update

I've been working on some new things for the shop & I finally made a bit of time this week to add them to the shop. Some of these were made months ago but I haven't been able to make enough time to put everything together.
I still have several to add but I'm glad to share some of what I've been working on.
For more frequent updates with my shop and jewelry, check my Instagram. It's become my mini blog and a great way to stay connected.

For those of you who follow me on Instagram, you know that over the weekend we bought Israel a new bed. He was sleeping in a junior (toddler) bed for a while but Jeremiah & I knew it was time for a 'real' bed.
Along with a new mattress and bed frame I had to order new sheets and comforter. Kids are expensive! Since the small blankets don't fit his bed any longer I'm looking for a nice warm blanket for his bed for Winter.
After browsing a few options I thought I'd share what I found with you, some options for small & big beds or for just lounging on the sofa.
