One of the best parts of being a mom is getting to play. Israel's current favorites are playing kitchen and building with blocks, among scooting around cars and tractors, painting and general mess making. It's hard to resist when I hear his little voice say, "come mama, build!" So we build little towers just to knock them down and do it over again.

I took these a few days ago, it was such a weird day. The afternoon was very cloudy and it looked like it would rain. For a few minutes the sun came out and everything looked so bright and pretty, it was the softest light and I wished I could have bottled it up to save for another day.
And just like that the sun went away and the rain came out, and very hard. Actually, I think the rain can be very beautiful too.

guest post: Idha Lindhag

I am so excited to welcome Niki as a guest blogger today. She's put together a lovely post to share, I love her style. Enjoy!

guest post today!guest post today!guest post today!guest post today!guest post today!Hello, I'm Niki from My Scandinavian Home! It's such an honour to write a guest post here!
Since I live in sunny Sweden I thought it would be a great opportunity to show some of the work by the fantastic interior, lifestyle and still life Swedish photographer Idha Lindhag who describes her style as 'personal, close and crispy!'.
Recently Idha photographed the incredibly cool monochrome themed studio and home of Danish artist Tenka Gamelgaard:

'Although I like more colour, I was incredibly inspired! It's not often that a home symbolizes a person to every little last detail. It was a fantastic, fun job to do and thrilling to meet a great personality'. -Idha Lindhag

You can check out more of Idha's photography here oh and Tenka Gamelgaard's blog here. Have a lovely day!

I'm a day late with this, apologies. I actually had these photos done from the weekend but just now got a chance to post them. Enjoy!

stripped

UntitledUntitledUntitledUntitledUntitledUntitledLast week a mentioned briefly that I was removing the visual "noise" from around the house. Well, it's true. I've removed everything from the walls and shelves and tables, even rugs and packed them into my cabinet just to have a little break. I have enjoyed seeing the emptiness and blank space, it's been a nice change.
My husband asked how long I'll leave it like this and I tell him, "Until I miss it". Or until this weekend when some friends are coming over to visit. With all of the things I have to do everyday along with all of the images I see on a regular basis, this has given me such a sense of peace and after a week and a half I still don't miss anything yet.
The other nice thing is when I do take out all of my knick knacks and decorations, I can think of new places to put them. I would definitely recommend giving this a try, it's better than buying a bunch of new stuff.

Coffee

Untitled SCH is a beautiful company out of Ă…lesund, Norway whose goal is to share pieces of the Scandinavian culture through their coffee roasting lifestyle. They plan to open a location in New York in 2013. Sounds like we might have to plan a visit to the city next year!

bread houses

Untitled Untitled Untitled Untitled Untitled I posted these on Instagram last week and thought I would share the recipe here as well. The house shaped mold is from Muji and the recipe too. We ate these with lemon curd but you could really eat them anyway, even plain if you like it.

Since this week has been so busy, as I mentioned, so consequently I think the bed has only been made once this week.

Ya, I'm going to go make it right now.

Israel loves being in our bed and teases me by saying, "I take a nap, good night!". We know better than to believe him since he does this in the middle of the day but he loves to pretend he's sleeping by laying down, covering himself up and breathing loudly. I ask him if that's how he breathes when he's asleep, he says yes.
Ok, Israel. ;)

what I've been doing

My shop has been staying busy and while I am so grateful, I am also so tired. It's not always easy to run a business and be a mom of a toddler as well as carve out time for my blog and any extra projects. Don't get me wrong, I love what I do and thankful it is something that helps to support my family but some days I could use an extra few hours.
I usually spend about 10 hrs a day working on some facet of the business while I juggle my other responsibilities. Typically I go to bed around 2:30 am and am up again before 8 or earlier. When I really have insane amounts to do, I eat terribly and look a mess.
I share this because I know there are some of you out there whose lives look similar.
The value of taking breaks cannot be underestimated. Just leaving the house and getting to the grocery store or going outside for a bit can do wonders to help me refocus and find new motivation. That along with spending some quality time with Israel and Jeremiah of course.

What do you do when your list of responsibilities seems to overwhelm you?

ps-those earrings are miniature version of my standard earrings. I've had a few custom requests for them but I was thinking of adding them as a regular style in the shop. They're really cute up close!

I saw Emma 'pin' this today and I had to share it with you. I love seeing the homes of real people and how they live, it's always interesting to see the space that people live in and how they use it.
I'm especially fond of how quiet Jakob's bedroom looks.

mugs
These colorfully patterned mugs are coming very soon to one of my favorite sponsors, Huset. Designed by Camilla Lundsten for Littlephant, these are part of an adorable and fun line of posters and books in a line of kids and home accessories. I will definitely be buying a few of these to drink from.

Also, I would like to introduce you all my new look. I've been working together with the sweet Ana from Blogmilk. I'm just glad to have a few of the basic features I was missing before, like a search bar and contact form as well as links to where you can find me elsewhere. I'm glad to have everything simplified even more and new logo too, designed by my husband Jeremiah. I incorporated the heart still though. I hope you like it, I know I do.

Make sure to visit Ana's blogmilk shop too, she does good work!

Over the weekend I bought some salted caramel and shortbread. The shortbread didn't last long but we still had some leftover caramel so we ate it with some banana bread muffins my mom made for Israel. It was quite rich so just one muffin was enough, but tasty too. Israel was unsure of the caramel at first but then warmed right up to it.
