thrifted

I found this little rocking chair for Israel at the thrift store recently and I'm in a quandary. Should I leave it like this or paint it? Such difficult life choices here.

I think a pastel green could be cute but the original wood is sort of nice too. For now though the chair remains like this, want to be sat in again during story time.

  3. I'm usually on the paint it bandwagon, but I love it just the way it is. I say keep it.

  4. Maybe you could just paint part of it...like the legs and armrests or something, and leave the rest that pretty wood? Could be cool :)

    1. Haha! Thanks for the conflicting advice. ;)

Maybe I will leave it like this for a while and paint it later. Or paint part of it. Oh, I guess we'll all have to wait and see.

Strip the varnish off and wax it.

I think it would be nicer paler.

If you paint it it will just keep getting chipped.

  9. Oh I have many quandries like this one. Find a nice piece of furniture. Love it in its original condition, yet can see its potential. Tricky, but if its original condition is good, or great then don't fix something that is not broken!

  10. I'm with Lydia, the wood is lovely but the shine is not so great. Sand it down and then a bit of wax to protect it - the soft matt wood would look gorgeous.

  11. This is so amazing, I've always wanted a rocking chair. Complete with the furry thing. Perfect.

  12. I'm halfway through painting a thrifted chair and if it means anything, sanding the chair, between all those little crevices sure is a pain in the A-hole. It's been on my to-do list for a few months now but can't muster the energy to get sanding again...

But if you do choose to paint it, what about sanding it down and using something like this? I'm not sure if Porters stock in the US but you might find something similar. http://www.porterspaints.com/paints/speciality-finishes/wood-wash

    I like Laura's idea too.

  16. I would definitely leave it as is - the wood is beautiful, but maybe a quick sand down to get rid of most of the varnish. But I also like the idea of maybe just the rockers at the bottom being painted white or something... So, really, not as it is at all! ha! sorry, not much help!

  17. I think leave as it is but poss sand down and wax as others say. Good luck deciding!

  18. I like it just the way it is! That colour is lovely.
