My mother-in-law bought me this great cast iron pot for Christmas. I love the bright red enamel and it's the perfect size for us. I didn't like the big, branded Martha Stewart handle it came with, however. I remembered seeing these knobs at the craft store and, just my luck, they fit perfectly. I already ditched the packaging but I believe they were meant as decorative ends for dowels...or something like that?!
I thought about staining it with a little Danish Oil but feared it might be too dark in comparison to the red so I just rubbed it with some Olive Oil, something I've done to finish wood surfaces for Israel's toys and it works well enough.
//update// I don't know if the wooden knob is oven safe, to answer your questions, but I don't plan on baking with it, at least not until I find out for sure if it's safe or not!
olive oil has the potential to turn rancid. i would use mineral oil for those purposes!
ReplyDeletelooks amazing, such a quick fix! i probably would have just put up with it and stayed frustrated!
ReplyDeleteliking the new merry mishap logo....i am not a fan of labelling either so the new wooden knob suits that lovely bright red beautifully! Dayle
ReplyDeleteI would never think to change the pot top, and I absolutely lvoe it! Brilliant:)
ReplyDeleteyou are genius jenn :) your photos looks so good!
ReplyDeletej.
Cute! One questions, though. Was the Martha Stewart knob oven proof?
ReplyDelete@LindsayJewell-I do not know that! It might have been but it was a type of plastic so there's a chance it wasn't too. I wish I could tell you definitively.
ReplyDeleteI would love to get this!
ReplyDeleteHaha..that's great! I was given a Rachel (I forgot her last name, but she's on tv) pan and all I wanted to do was take off her name. Unfortunately I couldn't because it was a frying pan...or could I??
ReplyDeleteso so cool tip! :) thanks!
ReplyDeleteVery cute.
ReplyDeleteVery creative.
the after is SOOOO much better! I don't believe martha stewart reflects who you are.
ReplyDeleteand ps - love the blogs new look!
oh i love the natural wood with the red. good thinking!
ReplyDeletewell, i'd never have thought of using those knobs as a pot holder!
ReplyDeletenever would have thought to do that. genius.
ReplyDeletewhat a simple but perfect after! love it!
ReplyDeletehi! i love your blog... that pot looks so much better. I have the martha stewart dutch oven too (found it on sale for 10 bucks! in white! score!) and yes, the knob is heat proof in the oven, up to about 400 degrees. I use it from stove-top-to-oven all the time. Love it...
ReplyDeleteIs the wood knob heat-proof? You could always hold on to the martha one and put it on for when you need to use it in the oven. I know LeCreuset also sells stainless steel knobs separately, not sure if they would fit the Martha pots though.
Well, it looks better but you may not be able to use it in the oven anymore. Just a thought.
