spending freeze ending & explanation

The spending freeze is nearly done and I didn't come up with a bunch of creative alternatives to spending money because some of the required money or I ended up being busy enough that I didn't need to find projects. One thing I did do though, which probably sounds very "high school" is empty my closet and made outfits for myself.

Sometimes I just see one big blur when I go to get dressed and don't have time to try different combinations to find the right look. I already keep to somewhat of a color palette when I shop, usually keeping with black, white, grey, nudes and brown. Boring? Maybe, but it makes it easier for this busy mom to leave the house presentably.

These aren't exactly outfits as they are groups of tops and dresses but I liked the way the groups looked together. Taking everything out and looking at it from a different perspective actually makes me feel a little bit like I bought new clothes. Still, I'm glad that the no shopping rule is coming to an end.

As for the explanation...the blog has had some minor changes, new grey background and white boxes as well as an absence of a header and other personal links. For those of you who have tried to edit their own blog html on very limited knowledge, you know how time consuming it can be to change your layout. The husband and I are still on the works of getting a proper blog back up and running, but until we're finished, don't worry, I haven't gone anywhere. Seriously, I'm probably just right here at home still!

  2. I have enjoyed reading about your spending freeze as my family is doing the same...although we are continuing through February (thankfully on a lesser scale). Definitely nice to see the savings, but I am desperately in need of a shopping fix :) anyway just wanted to say hi (i've been a blog stalker for awhile) and congratulations on making it through the month!

  3. That's not high school at all! I have thought about doing that on many occasions for exactly the reason you named; when you're trying to get out of the house in the morning, the last thing you want to do is spend a lot of time picking out an outfit. Good for you for reexamining your closet like this! You may have just provided the motivation I've needed for ages.

  6. we are doing a spending freeze in february, i am not looking forward to it! (although i'm sure it will be rewarding in the end.) i'll have to remember to do this with my clothes at the end of the month! :) i feel the same way - it's hard to be a mom and look stylish all the time! i especially find it hard during boise's cold winters. i'm looking forward to spring here!

  7. since i am a new mom, i also experience the "hardly no time to dress in the morning" thing. so now i end up with wearing only a few things and changing inbetween. you know - three or four outfits i know will work (also breastfeeding makes for a very limited choice on clothes) one good thing: i realise, i don't actually miss having that many clothes. a few good ones will do. so i am having a major clean out aswell. when i have a little more time on hand ;-)

  9. Your blog is looking great, and yes, is very consuming and hard to change html, my husband and I did that not so long ago with my blog and wow was very consuming, but at the end the important thing is that you can be happy with your new blog image. Also sometimes I do the same thing with my outfits so that's not high school at all : ) . Have a great weekend.

  13. Did you take pictures of the outfits you came up with??? That always seems to be my problem. I come up with some hot outfits, but always forget about the picture ... then months down the line when I'm looking for an outfit I say "what was it that I wore months ago that was not only sexy, but also classy ... darn! I shoulda took a picture"

    hahaha

  14. I do the same thing with my closet too (all the time). Especially when i don't want to go shopping for new clothes. Usually, i'll find items that i haven't worn or seen in a long time:-).
